Fellowship Program

The CRRC Fellowship Program was launched in 2004 to support outstanding researchers in the South Caucasus interested in pursuing original policy-oriented research. CRRC gives out grants to fellows to analyze policy relevant issues in economics, sociology, demography and other social science related fields. Fellows often use data gathered under the CRRC Data Initiative as well as new and existing data sources to complete their research. Grantees are selected through a competitive process of both peer review and a selection committee of leading practitioners and researchers.

In 2007, a series of new and innovative changes were made to the Fellowship Program. With great success, the Fellowship Program was brought online, using Moodle to increase their application skills before they apply. Moodle also provides an interactive environment for applicants to communicate with each other and CRRC staff during the application process, which has significantly improved the quality of applications. CRRC now uses Moodle as an innovative method to provide training while administering its Fellowship Program.

Selected fellows for 2008 participated in series of trainings facilitated by Moodle. Fellows were also required to submit their publications to a peer-reviewed journal in the English language, which CRRC sees as important in integrating the Caucasus into global academic dialogue and discourse.

With the aim of strengthening the capacity of young social science researchers, in 2013 the Caucasus Research Resource Centers-Armenia launched the Junior Fellowship Program. Every year, six Fellows are being selected, and over the next half year they contribute to the work of CRRC, while also receiving on the job and more formal training from staff and outside experts. The Fellows are selected through a competitive, multiple-step process; after an initial application-based selection, they comple a test-based assessment, and, finally, participate in a week-long training, where they produce a short research paper for final evaluation. Each of the Fellows has a unique background and research interests, and they have already begun contributing to different projects at CRRC–Armenia.
