OVERVIEW

This research aims to identify the main parameters that affect Armenian intellectuals’ approaches to historical and contemporary political issues with Turkey. In this research, intellectuals are taken as agents of symbolic power, who play a crucial role in the construction, circulation and exchange of knowledge and political opinion within and across societies. Armenian intellectuals who receive information from the Turkish public space, and disseminate it to its Armenian counterpart after configuring, modifying and reconstructing it comprise the persons of interest here. The questions that arise with respect to their activity are related to the extent towards which they are autonomous, the potential challenges implied in their interactions with the Armenian state and its decision-makers, and the ways in which they interact with Turkish intellectuals throughout their joint activities. The presentation will explore these questions by making use of in-depth interviews conducted with Armenian academics, journalists, and NGO-workers. There will be an open discussion after the presentation.

TARGET GROUP

The lecture is addressed to faculty members, students, junior researchers and young professionals in the field of Turkish studies and Genocide studies. The event is open to the general public.
